This article will not contain spoilers. I will try to talk about the film very comprehensively
Early Screening in Hungary and First Impressions
On April 30th, the Pushkin Cinema already showed the film, albeit with the original dubbing and subtitles. So the jokes and puns were not lost in the Hungarian dubbing.
Personally, I loved the first part, I was excited to see what the sequel would be like. The first trailers were very mystical and really intriguing. But how did the film live up to this expectation?
Inauthentic Luxury?
In short, this film is very modern, but not technically, thematically. You can feel that 20 years have passed, and this is evident, if not in the characters, then in the mentality, the perception, and the speech. Fashion has changed, and trends have changed too. The industry doesn’t work the same way it did 20 years ago. And that affects everything. People, relationships, the media. Somewhere that’s what bothered me – how ordinary it all is.
The first film presented a world that was inaccessible to many. One that many people longed for. This film was decisive for many people. Whether it was about identity, career or even styling. Although the second part tries to maintain the luxury, it still feels as if it no longer exists.
It’s as if everything is now within reach, at your fingertips. The truth is that it is. We can find extremely expensive clothes in thrift stores. We have insight into worlds we never had the chance to see before. We influence fashion and the media. A simple, unskilled person can end up where others have sacrificed their life for. It’s clear: luxury is more accessible today than it was 20 years ago.

Was a Sequel Necessary?
Fans of the first film might have mixed reactions to this sequel. Of course, fashion lovers can still find many brands and dazzling clothes, and familiar scenes will return for those who have an eye for detail.
It’s not tragic as a sequel, but it might raise the question: Did we need this? The first movie ended in a great way; the story was complete. If we had wanted a sequel, it might have looked different. It’s a bit like Top Gun: Maverick., an old story in a new guise.

If I had to highlight something really positive, it would be the music. Just like in the first film, you will once again feel like you are on a runway and will feel extremely confident. Perhaps this should be the main message. That’s right, as Coco Chanel said: „La mode passe; le style reste„, or „Fashion passes, style remains.” There is indeed a style, a well-established custom that perhaps it would be better if it remained a permanent piece or formed a tradition.
In closing, let me quote the film’s most iconic music and its refrain:
“Monday through Sunday
I can turn a dance floor into a runway!”
(Lady Gaga & Doechii – RUNWAY)
